Ahh, Christmas morning - about 99 % of the time Kate is an early riser. However, on Christmas morning she decided to catch up on her sleep and didn't wake up until 8:30 and only because Spencer couldn't handle waiting any longer and went into her room with the video camera and light on. It was so fun to watch her when she first saw all the presents under the tree and as she open each one. She got lots of good things but her favorite by far was a package of Binky's (aka Tetos). Go figure!

After a wonderful Christmas morning of opening presents we ate some breakfast and started to clean up while Kate played with her new toys.

Our cleaning up got a little carried away because we not only throw out the old wrapping paper but we also threw out our tree. We decided to head for California that night so we decided while we were in the cleaning mood we'd take down all our Christmas decor. It was nice to have everything back in it's normal spot but for some reason my house always seems so bare when all is put away.
So at 5:30 Christmas evening we loaded up the car and planned on driving to California for 11 hours while Kate slept. It would have worked out just perfect except for the fact that we got stuck in a snow storm in Beaver Utah. I mean we were not going anywhere along with all the other cars and vans and big semi-trucks that had to pull to the side of the road so all the trucks with 4 wheel drive could pass. Once we stopped we couldn't get going again. It was snowing so hard and we were going up hill. So we thought we were going to be spending the night in the car until the morning. I was so scared. We said a prayer and not 10 minutes later a snow plow truck came driving by clearing the roads and laying red rock down for traction. With all of us in the front seat and a prayer in our hearts we started moving again. Only to find that at the next exit they had the freeway closed. So we had to pull off and get a motel for the night. That was sure a scramble because i is a small own and everyone was trying to get a hotel room. We found a cheap motel and decided to get some rest and start up again early in the morning. Spencer made a quick run to a convenient store for dinner and came back with a burrito and some doughnuts. To say the least we were starving. Spencer popped his burrito into the microwave and this is what happened when he pulled it out. After looking at it close up he wasn't hungry anymore so he didn't eat.

Stopped on the side of the road for at least an hour. Kate was happy because she got out of her car seat on the Freeway. Spencer couldn't get out of the car because he was in shorts and a t-shirt and didn't bring any winter clothes with him.

The next morning it must have snowed another 6-12 inches. Spencer woke up at 5:00 am and spent an hour shovling our car out of the snow and a path to he entrance of the hotel so we could gt unto the main road. We finally worked our way back onto the freeway and another 8 hours later, singing old McDonald 1 million times, me throwing up in the car twice, going 50 miles in the wrong direction and Kate having enough of her car seat we made it to Ken and Gloria's home. It's a good thing we had such a great time in California because after the trip of getting there I'm not sure we'd ever try to do it again.
