Christmas in Idaho

The day after Christmas we went up to Idaho to do it all over again. It was a short day trip but still lots of fun. Kate found this clown wig and put it on - I'm pretty sure she's the cutest clown ever!

We all took family pictures before the fiasco of opening presents began.

Each family got a can of food storage and a gift card to a restaurant from Terry and Ebony. Then each of the grandchildren opened their gifts from grandma and grandpa french.

This year Cory and Becky drew our family for Christmas. Becky worked so hard and did a great job on making all of us homemade sweaters. Here's Kate's. I'm not sure she knew what it was.

Becky also made Kate two stuffed animals, a bee and a pig.

Then each of the kids drew names to get one of their cousins something. Kenadee drew Kate's name and got her a color mat and a kitchen mixer. Kate has played with them both non-stop.

Great Grandma French gave all her great grandchildren foot pillows. They were all so cute!

Don't worry I didn't forget, here's Spencer and I in our homemade sweaters from Becky and Cory. She did such a great job!

Becky didn't stop with just making sweaters for our family, she then crocheted a blanket for Terry and Ebony too.

The rest of the day we played games and talked. It was great to see everyone and I know how much Kate loves to spend time with her Grandma, Grandpa and her cousins.

Christmas Day!

Christmas Morning we opened presents. Kate was a little hesitant at first but after seeing what was under the wrapping paper she started to tear through her presents.

Kate got me a whole new set of pots and pans. I loved it! I still had mis-match pieces from my college days.

Kate got Spencer a battery organizer and testing station.

If you go back to last Christmas you notice that Kate got the exact same mini tramp last year too. She didn't use it much then so we took it down and gave it to here again this year. He he. If that's not a re-gift then I don't know what is.

Later that morning we went over to Rachel and Anthony's for breakfast and for the kiddos to exchange their presents from each other. Kate got a Little Mermaid doll.

On another note. I hope this doesn't become a yearly tradition because it was kind of sad. Our Christmas was dead about 2 weeks before Christmas. Yes we did water it but I think because we had to hack at it so much for it to fit in the Christmas tree stand it didn't have much of a chance to last longer than a week or two. About a week and a half before Christmas we turned the Christmas tree light on while we were doing one of our Days of Christmas. In only twenty minutes I could smell something burning. I quickly walked over to the tree and unplugged it. Ever since then we only turned the tree on once to take pictures. Poor thing was looking so dead, that Christmas afternoon we had it outside ready to set a blaze. The next few pictures explain why Christmas tree fire's are so dangerous. But it was fun to watch such an amazing sight that only lasted for about 30 seconds.

Another great Christmas to remember! Spencer thought that was the highlight of the day.

12th Day of Christmas

Christmas Eve
For our last day of celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas we had my sister and her family come over for a very yummy Christmas Eve dinner. We then tried to watch the birth of Christ DVD with three very excited little ones. Once we gave up on that, we opened one Christmas Eve present, PJ's, of course and ate some cookies and milk. I know the cookies and milk are for Santa but not in this household. We are known as the cookie monsters. The late night sugar snack didn't help the kids calm down but I have to admit I was really excited too. My family was getting in that night too. My dad, mom, little sister and the family dog drove for 3 days in a semi all the way from Florida. Believe me, they were glad to finally be here as much as I was glad to see them.

11th Day of Christmas

Tonight we watched The Nativity and ate some cookies and milk. Kate really like the 5 minute movie and kept asking to watch it again. Only one more day of our little twelve Days of Christmas and it's sure to be the best day yet. :)

10th Day of Christmas

9th Day of Christmas

Last night we went to the Energy Solutions Arena for a special Christmas Sing Along. It was free to get in with free hot dogs, free drinks and free Jazz Tickets for an upcoming game! I guess the owner of the Utah Jazz was feeling generous. Well we went. Spencer went for the free hot dogs and Kate and I went for the music and sing along. Well we had a great time!

Kate and Austin (Cousin) are the best of friends!

Spencer and my sister Rachel waited in line for about an hour for what ended up being gross hot dogs. They were able to catch the last 15 minutes of the program.

Kate refused to open her eyes for the picture so we got the best family shot we could.

8th Day of Christmas

All day today I was in the kitchen baking up some rolls to take to our friends and family. We put some plates together of rolls and some yummy creamed honey. I wish I would have taken a picture of Kate in the flour. It was all over the counter and her. I couldn't get to upset because I'm pretty sure my mom has a picture of me doing the same thing - working hard on making a mess, I mean "helping". However, Spencer did get a picture of me with all the plates because he thought I did most of the work. Little does he know that it wasn't work at all because I enjoy baking. :) Later that night we drove around and dropped them off. It was nice to see everyone and wish them a very Merry Christmas!

7th Day of Christmas

Tonight we were supposed to do some service and help clean our church building but after making some phone calls and waiting for 20 minutes for someone to open the door, our 7th Day of Christmas activity fell through as nobody showed up. So we came home and made rice krispie treat wreaths. Kate was an excellent helper as always. Her favorite part was helping me put the M&M's on - one on the wreath and then one in her tummy.

6th Day of Christmas

Tonight we had our Ward Christmas Party. It was good to see everyone from the ward but we left early to get an ultra-sound to find out if Kate is going to have a little brother or sister. Well the verdict is in and we are having a... GIRL! That's right another cute, sweet, and heaven sent little girl to bless our family. When we found out Spencer was nonchalant about it because deep down inside I think he knew all along it was a girl. Kate didn't say much either but I'm not sure she really knew what was going on. As for me, I'm somewhat relieved because I know how to deal with girls. I've been around girls all my life - I was a little nervous to raise a boy. I can totally see my girls doing fashion shows, making dad come to their salon, doing little dances and skits and wrapping everyone they meet around their fingers, but most of all being the best of friends. We are so excited to finally know and now the name game begins ... I'll keep you posted :)

5th Day of Christmas

Tonight we played it low key and read some Christmas books. The first was The Giving Chest by Dick Van Dyke which was too long for Kate's 15 second attention span. So not even being able to make it through the first page we just looked at the pictures which were very cute.

Then we read or I should say sang the songs from a book Grandma French made Kate last year. Kate's favorite song was Jingle Bells which she can sing both versions (the normal version and also the batman version) very well.

4th Day of Christmas

Tonight we made a Gingerbread House for the 4th Day of Christmas. We had some extra help from Brooke and Austin. They were so excited. However, it took awhile to get the house ready to actually decorate. They did a great job putting on the candy,well I should say Kate and Austin did a great job, Brooke just ate the candy and when there wasn't any candy she went for the bowl of icing. It was definitely a messy but definitely worth it!

3rd Day of Christmas

Tonight we went to Thanksgiving Point to see and feed the reindeer and then drove through their Field of Lights. The reindeer just laid there while Spencer tried to peg...I mean feed them some food. Kate really liked the lights but the excitement could have also been from getting to sit up front with mom and dad and not being buckled up. Either way she really enjoyed the drive. They did a great job with the lights but at the end they told the story of Jesus' birth which made it a very nice ending to the night.

What's She Thinkin'?

Kate has said and done some pretty funny things and I'm afraid that I'll forget them so I am writing them here where everyone can enjoy them.

10-12-12 Spencer picked up Kate from school today and she proceed to tell him that she told her whole class our phone number. Spencer was shocked because he didn't think she even knew our cell numbers. So he asked her to tell him and she quickly replied "2". 2 is Spencer and my speed dial for each other. Ha!

5-18-11 We got some lunch at Del Taco where the kids could play. There was a boy with long hair playing there too and Kate says in front of everyone, "Mom, hers a boy, for real !" The little boys mom just chuckled.

4-24-11 It was Easter Sunday and Kate asked about the Resurection... the rest of the convo went like this...

Kate: Mom what's the resurection?

Me: It's when you come back to life after you die

Kate: what does that look like?

Me: Oh it's pretty

Kate: So it's Pink?

3-20-11 Kate got some Barbies from a neighbor family who now has older children. She's been playing with non-stop and when Spencer asked her the name of one of the Barbies she quickly replied, "oh her name is Porky". That Barbie is sure to have a complex now.

3-20-11 Spencer and Kate were talking about the garden we want toplat this year and Kate said this... "Daddy, I want to grow a hugen pumpkin and call it Humpkin"

2-10-11 Kate and my mom were talking about riding horses and my mom asked Kate what her horses name was, she took a second to think about it and then replyed, "He's a pink horse named blue. "

9-29-10 Kate was in a bad mood and wanted something that I wasn't going to get her so she gave me the stink eye and then said,"mommy i'm magic and going to disapear from here and then ride my bike to get a treat at the store with daddy!".

9-17-10 Kate is in Spencer's football pool and she makes her picks each week by pointing to the team she wants to win. The other day she was coloring and Spencer was reading off the teams and Kate was telling him who she wanted.

Spencer: Jets or Patriots?

Kate: humm.... Jets because they're in the bathtub

Spencer: What?

Kate: daddy i said Jets because they're in the bathtub!

We have a jetted tub that kate likes to play in and turn on the "jets" and once he remembered that it was just common sense to pick the Jets... because they're in the bathtub.

7-26-10 Kate was telling me how she wanted someone to play with. I told her that I would play with here but she looked at me with her big eyes and said, "no mommy, not you. I want someone little like Brooke, Austin, or D-Bo." (D-bo is my dad)

5-9-10 After church we decided to go to the park. When I asked Kate which park she wanted to go to she said the red one. I told her I didn't know where that one was and then she said... "It's in utah idaho american south." Got it.

10-4-09 Spencer asked Kate if she wanted some ice-cream and she replied, "I sure do!"

10-1-09 Kate was in the tub while I was getting ready when I heard her singing like Ariel, "ah ahh ahh, ahh ah ahhh". When I looked at her she was on her belly and I started to laugh. She then quickly sat up and said, "what mommy?"

9-16-09 Kate's new favorite movie is the Little Mermaid. She was watching it when she turned to me and said, Mommy, I want to go to the ocean floor to say HI to Ariel and all the fishies".

9-1-09 It was past Kate's bed time when she asked to watch "Dora". I told her no because it was time for bed. Then she asked if she could watch football. Spencer perked right up and gave me a look like how was he supposed to turn that down? I guess she was willing to do anything to say up. Te-he-he We compromised by reading books together as a family.

8-27-09 Kate and I were driving in a construction zone in Provo when she saw a very large building crane. Then she said, "Mommy, I want to get in my bathing suit and ride that dinosaur."

8-23-09 Kate went into Spencer's office and said in a very frim voice, "Dad, I need my own computer." My dad says we're done for because Kate is already smarter than both Spencer and I.

8-20-09 Kate's new favorite things to do is hide things in drawers and cupboards. Just recently I have found Monk-monk in almost every drawer in the house - she even hid him while we were camping in Grandma camper. I have also found a hot pocket, a beach ball, sippy cups, hair accessories, shoes, measuring cups, small books and toys, and all sorts of stuff. I still giggle when I find things but I'm sure this will get very annoying very soon.

8-9-09 We were late to church so we just grabbed the first chairs we could see in the overflow. As soon as we sat down both Spencer and I looked at each other and gasped - the young lady in front of us had the worst body order EVER!! Kate didn't notice at first but it didn't take her long before she said very loud, "Eww that's stinky! Stinky mommy stinky!" As most 2 year olds do, she kept repeating those words. Needless to say we had to get up and move after the opening prayer.

7-22-09 "Mommy, see the mountains. I love them so much!"

6-22-09 We were all watching some T.V. when Kate came up to Spencer and I holding her Mrs. Potato Head and said, "What the Chicken?"

6-1-09 Spencer and Kate were looking at a rainbow in the sky when Spencer decided to name off all the colors in the rainbow, "Blue, purple, green, yellow and red" Then Kate looks at him and say, "And orange daddy, and orange". What 2 year old would know what color he didn't say?

5-30-09 Kate was having a hard time falling asleep so I laid in the guest bed with her to help calm her down. I was almost asleep when I heard some strange noises. Then a small voice says, "that was me". This went on for a good five minutes and I couldn't help but to snicker a few times at the silly noises she would make and then follow with "that was me" just in case I didn't know who or what was making those sounds.

5-20-09 A man with brown shoulder length hair walks onto the airplane. Kate points at him and says, "Jesus mommy, Jesus!!" She repeats this about 4 times while pointing right at him and each time she says it louder and louder.

5-9-09 I was taking some vitamins and Kate wanted some so I filled a syringe with water when she wasn't looking and told her to open big for her medicine. She did and then looked up at me with her big brown eyes and a face of disappointment and with a sigh said, "water mommy?" My mouth fell open and for a second I didn't know what to say then I started laughing.
