5 Year Well Check Up

Kate had her 5 year check up today which also meant she was getting shots for kindergarden.  She was such a brave girl having to get her finger pricked and 5 shots in her legs.  This is her trying to hold back the tears and give me a big smile.  She's just AWESOME!
Here are her stats:
Weight: 32.6 lbs (10th percentile)
Height: 3ft.  3 1/2in. (5th percentile)

Family 4 Wheelin' Trip

My whole family went up Spanish Fork Canyon for what was suppose to be a 3 hour ride.  We had a great start and the kids were loving it.
We stopped and found a place to build a fire and roast some hotdogs for dinner.  It was a nice break and the kids loved exploring the mountain terrain.  After dinner we road for a bit more on the main trail but then found a side trail that looked really fun.  After going on that tail for a good hour and a half we thought it would be best to turn back before it got to dark and cold.  My dad had another idea and wanted to see if the side trail we were on would take us back to the main road where our trucks were.  He road ahead and found that it did so we ventured on.  By this time it was getting dark and everyone had on their coats.  We made it to the end of the trail to find that the gate had been locked and there was no way to get on the main road.  So at 8:45 we headed back the way we came for a 2 1/2 hour ride back to our cars.  It was dark, cold, and we had tired kids. What was suppose to be a quick day trip turned into 8 hour ride. Mind you we had Kate and Brooke up front then Spencer driving then sandwiched in between him and my belly was Bree.  The last few miles we flu because we just wanted to get there.  It was so cold! We were never so happy to see our truck and turn on the heat.  We loaded up fast and stopped for hot chocolate to warm us up.  It was quite the adventure.

No Training Wheels... Maybe

This morning Kate woke up, put on jeans (this is a big deal in itself because the girl very much dislikes wearing pants let alone jeans) a long sleeve shirt and got her sock and shoes on.  When she came out of her room both Spencer and I were a little confused by her choice of clothing.  Then she said, "K Daddy, teach me to ride my bike without training wheels"
So at a quarter to 9 the two of them went outside.  Kate super excited and Spencer super nervous.  After a good 5 minutes of trying to teach her to just balance on the bike which she could only do for about 2 seconds before she tipped over, Spencer was saved by the garbage truck man who drove by and didn't collect our grass clippings.
So a new adventure came about and Spencer and Kate stopped the "Lesson" and chased down the garbage truck guy, who happened to be parked just down the street by the park bathrooms, where they had to wait about 10 minutes for him to come out of the public restrooms.  Awkward!
By the time they cleared up the misunderstanding about the grass clippings it was too hot for the "Lesson" to continue.  It was a good try from both but after thinking about it we decided to put the training wheels back back on and make them really loose so she could learn to balance on her bike but still feel like she wasn't going to fall over.  Hopefully by the end of summer she'll have it down. Both her and her dad are so much a like...not very patient.

The Lorax

Took the girls to the dollar theater to see the movie The Lorax.
I thought it would go a lot better than it did because Bree is such a movie lover.  We ended up with the girls on our laps feeding them candy and soda to keep them entertained and quite.  Lesson learned.
It might be a while before we attempt another outing like this.

Desert 4 Wheelin'

Today we took the girls on a quick 4 wheeler ride which was mostly desert.  About half way into the ride we got off and went exploring.  Another fun part of being outdoors.  The girls loved playing in the dirt and finding bugs.  It got real exciting when we found a lizard and tried to catch the little guy.
It wasn't long and mostly out in the open with sage brush on either side of the trail but it was fun to spend the time together.  I just love these kind of days.

A mouse

Wish I could say this was a fake, a practical joke, prank, or a hoax but I shall not lie.  This little guy some how got into our house and teased us for two days. We tried to play nice and just catch him so we could set him free.  By day three I was so disgusted by the thought of our uninvited guest that I made Spencer buy some traps.   Kate woke up super happy the morning after we set them wanting to go check all the traps to see if we caught this little bugger.  It didn't take long for me to hear the scream of success and Kate and Spencer running up the stairs to show me their victory prize.  Can't say I was sorry - just glad to have him out of my house.

Planting the Garden

For Family Night we went outside and planted our garden.  Such a fun thing for our family to do together.  This year we planted pumpkins, zucchini, yellow squash, peas, onions, carrots, cherry tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, corn, and raspberries.  If all goes well then we'll have some yummy treats in our own back yard.  Not to mention our fruit trees (cherry, peach and apple).

Bree was a big help in mixing up the seeds and planting them where ever her little heart desired.  To her it was all about playing in the dirt.
Now we just have to wait.  :)

Fiesta To Break The Fast

Every month on Fast Sunday the whole family out here in Utah gets together to "Break the Fast"  We were was hosting for the month a May and because it was so close to Cinco De Mayo I decided that we would have the Cuban Seis De Mayo Fiesta.  It was great food and everyone came with a mustache (which is only appropriate for a cuban fiesta) on to take a picture.
Here's our group all mustached up.

Until next month!
