My whole family went up Spanish Fork Canyon for what was suppose to be a 3 hour ride. We had a great start and the kids were loving it.
We stopped and found a place to build a fire and roast some hotdogs for dinner. It was a nice break and the kids loved exploring the mountain terrain. After dinner we road for a bit more on the main trail but then found a side trail that looked really fun. After going on that tail for a good hour and a half we thought it would be best to turn back before it got to dark and cold. My dad had another idea and wanted to see if the side trail we were on would take us back to the main road where our trucks were. He road ahead and found that it did so we ventured on. By this time it was getting dark and everyone had on their coats. We made it to the end of the trail to find that the gate had been locked and there was no way to get on the main road. So at 8:45 we headed back the way we came for a 2 1/2 hour ride back to our cars. It was dark, cold, and we had tired kids. What was suppose to be a quick day trip turned into 8 hour ride. Mind you we had Kate and Brooke up front then Spencer driving then sandwiched in between him and my belly was Bree. The last few miles we flu because we just wanted to get there. It was so cold! We were never so happy to see our truck and turn on the heat. We loaded up fast and stopped for hot chocolate to warm us up. It was quite the adventure.
